Research
During my PhD, I set up a new Drosophila model of Dystrophy Myotonic type 1(DM1), an autosomic dominant neuromuscular disorder affecting 1/8000 people worldwide. This model is inducible and reproduces different states of severity of the disease. I focused on describing larval somatic muscles phenotypes as well as adult heart physiologic phenotypes. I used genome-wide approaches in order to assess the involvement of splicing factors (MBNL1 and CUGBP1) mis-expressed in DM1 and conserved with the fruit fly.
Currently, I am trying to understand the role of CUGBP1 orthologue in both diseased and healthy muscles.
